The Butler Institute of American Art presents their Film on Art series each Tuesday at noon through March in the Zona Auditorium located in the Butler’s Beecher Center. A schedule of films can be found at butlerart.com

Youngstown State University President Bill Johnson will welcome Warren native, pianist and composer Darrius Simmons as the featured guest for the next installment of the university’s Presidential Conversations series at noon Tuesday, Sept. 22, in Ford Theater in Bliss Hall. Simmons is a self-taught pianist and composer from Warren, Ohio, whose story of talent and determination has captured national attention. Born with a genetic condition called ectrodactyly, he has three fingers on his right hand and one finger on his left. He also was diagnosed with tibial hemimelia, a rare congenital lower-limb condition, and had both legs amputated below the knee at 18 months old. The event is free and open to the public.

The Audubon Society of Mahoning Valley presents the program, "Spiders Really Need Our Love" on Tuesday September 22 at 7:00 at the Austintown Senior Center. Just before our “spooky season” arrives, retired interpretive naturalist Pat Rydquist will share the lives and value of spiders in the hopes that others will appreciate their beauty and worth. The event is free and open to all.

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will mark the 100th anniversary of broadcasting in the Mahoning Valley on Thursday, September 24 at 6:30pm in their facility on West Federal St. The event will feature a panel of local media personalities, including Michelle Nicks, Rich Morgan, and Lynn Williamson, will speak about their time in broadcasting across radio and television history. The event will be moderated by Stan Boney. The event is free and open to the public.
